I was just listening to a playlist on my MBP that ran through a particularly sweet spot - Gil Scott-Heron's New York Is Killing Me Mos Def remix into Kanye West's Power which slid perfectly into Thom Yorke's Black Swan. I didn't plan that sequence, I must have been psycho-drifting, but hearing those songs together made me realize that not only does hip hop owe a deep debt to Scott-Heron but also musical/social agitators like Yorke. Scott-Heron's legacy runs deep. We should take note of it now and not leave it too late ala Captain Beefheart.
