A quick thought about smoke and mirrors. This is going to get messy.
With their announcement about regulating Internet access, Google and Verizon's tactic appears to be "confuse and divide," as surely these company's talented tech folks know that the "traditional broadband Internet access services,” and the package-switched Internet, together provide the ability for any one - a person or a business entity - to ship online information; information that in order to have value needs to go to a lot of places. Hello Internet.
Or as Barry Diller puts it - “They want the equivalent of having the toaster pay for the ability to plug itself into the electrical grid.”
Wired had something to say too..something about Google being a "carrier humping net neutrality surrender monkey.."
